Last week we had a staff development day at the library where I work, and the presenter talked about how we could frame problems more positively. Say, for example, the problem is we have low morale at our workplace. Instead of focusing on the negative, we could try flipping it to:
Yeah, this is good for the problems under our control. And the skepticism comes in when it's a problem above our pay grade, because then it comes off like management shirking its responsibility. At work, I always tried to be solution-focused, e.g., "Here's what I'm recommending / requesting." Whenever part of the solution was something I could do myself, I'd say, "Here's what I'm planning to do, OK?" Because otherwise it was unbelievable how long it took even the simplest, no-cost solutions to be implemented.
